Fathers of the Catholic Church
Author E. J. Waggoner | 251 pages soft cover
History repeats itself because human nature is the same in all ages of the world. Hence, he who would know how to avoid error in the future must know how errors have developed in the past. The “Fathers of the Catholic Church” (1) shows the condition of the heathen world at the time of Christ, (2) briefly states the principles of ancient heathen philosophy, and (3) shows how the adoption of these principles by prominent men in the church, and the incautious lowering of the standard of pure Christianity, developed the Papacy, which was simply a new phase of paganism. It shows that by the time of Constantine, every phase of the Papacy was fully developed, and was only waiting for supreme power.
“To the law and to the testimony; if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them”. (Isaiah 8:20).
Ellet J. Waggoner was greatly impacted by a revelation of Christ as a sin-pardoning Redeemer. This view of Christ guided his study of the Bible during his whole life. He was also a diligent student of history and prophecy, being deeply involved in promoting religious liberty as a co-editor of the American Sentinel.
