The Times of Refreshing
- The Times of Refreshing Part 1
- The Times of Refreshing Part 2
"If anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His" (Rom. 8:9). "If all were willing, all would be filled with the Spirit....Whenever minor matters occupy the attention, the divine power which is necessary for the growth and prosperity of the church, and which would bring all other blessings in its train, is lacking, though offered in infinite plenitude" (AA 50). If this is the case, then we must earnestly and primarily surrender to and seek the Holy Spirit with everything we have, for if we do not have Him working in us now, we cannot receive any other spiritual blessing or gift, nor can we call ourselves Christians. We cannot expect God to miraculously inject us with His Spirit at the last minute of probation.
For these reasons, Pastor Bohr shares biblical descriptions of the many indispensably vital functions the Holy Spirit fills. He entreats us to awaken to the supreme importance of learning how to receive His transforming power so we will be holy, effective in ministry, and prepared to meet God.
The experience of the apostles as they underwent the necessary preparation for receiving the Spirit's power at Pentecost is our example of success. They needed to be unselfishly united as one in truth and love and to devote their time, talents, lives and means to spreading the gospel before they could be successful in reaching their fellow Jews and the world. When the Lord sees us willing to lay all on the altar like they did, and when we long to have all sin "blotted out" from our lives during this antitypical Day of Atonement, then the Holy Spirit will be freed to fall on the church in power for the Latter Rain "times of refreshing" to proclaim the three angels' messages.
Many Christians today try to conjure up and use the Spirit, as if He were some magic power that comes without a real life change, but the Spirit is to control, use and work in us as we surrender to Him and wait in humility for His guidance and grace. "Not one of us will ever receive the seal of God while our characters have one spot or stain upon them. It's left with us to remedy the defects in our characters, to cleanse the soul temple from every defilement. Then the latter rain will fall upon us as the early rain fell upon the disciples on the day of Pentecost" (CET p. 189). If you are looking for a time of refreshing in your own life and a deeper understanding of this all-important subject, as well as a challenge and encouragement to live a powerful, victorious and perfected life in Christ and to be on fire for God, then this series is just what the Doctor ordered.
