The Ethiopian Cry
Taking his inspiration from the story in Acts 8:26-40 of Philip being called by God to witness to the searching Ethiopian official, Pastor Bohr shows how the Holy Spirit operates through the angels to empower and lead those willing to witness for Him to souls needing light and encouragement. He brings out several pointers on how to be a successful witness and teacher to those hungry for God.
Like the early disciples did, we are called to lay all on the line and be ready to serve God in witnessing, no matter the dangers and obstacles, the lack of feeling qualified, or the fear of failure or opposition. We must have a driving love for souls like that of Jesus in leaving the ninety-nine sheep in the fold to risk His all to save just one stray sinner. Pastor Bohr discusses several statements that show us that to obtain this kind of love we must realize the worth God puts on each soul. "The value of a soul, who can estimate? Would you know its worth, go to Gethsemane, and there watch with Christ through those hours of anguish, when He sweat as it were great drops of blood. Look upon the Saviour uplifted on the cross. Hear that despairing cry, 'My God, My God, why hast Thou forsaken Me?' Mark 15:34.... Remember that Christ risked all. For our redemption, heaven itself was imperiled. At the foot of the cross, remembering that for one sinner Christ would have laid down His life, you may estimate the value of a soul" (COL 196). "As you see the peril and misery of the world under the working of Satan, do not exhaust your God-given energies in idle lamentations, but go to work for yourselves and for others. Awake, and feel a burden for those who are perishing. If they are not won to Christ they will lose an eternity of bliss....For the conversion of one soul we should tax our resources to the utmost. One soul won to Christ will flash heaven's light all around him, penetrating the moral darkness and saving other souls" (6T 21). This sermon will encourage, equip and inspire you to co-operate with the power of God and His angels in sharing your faith. "This Ethiopian represented a large class who need to be taught by such missionaries as Philip--men who will hear the voice of God and go where He sends them. There are many who are reading the Scriptures who cannot understand their true import. All over the world men and women are looking wistfully to heaven. Prayers and tears and inquiries go up from souls longing for light, for grace, for the Holy Spirit. Many are on the verge of the kingdom, waiting only to be gathered in" (AA 109). "Long has God waited for the spirit of service to take possession of the whole church so that everyone shall be working for Him according to his ability. When the members of the church of God do their appointed work in the needy fields at home and abroad, in fulfillment of the gospel commission, the whole world will soon be warned and the Lord Jesus will return to this earth with power and great glory. 'This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come' (Matthew 24:14)" (AA 111).There are no reviews yet.
